2014 Duramax 3500 Express Van 12 Passenger 20,475 miles.
Hi. We're new to the forum and could use some advice.
We have 2014 Duramax 3500 1 ton Passenger van. 10k tow capacity.
We're considering if we should buy a Creekside 23dbs and use to tow the travel trailer or sell the van and buy a class c.
We rented a travel trailer for a week and it towed wonderfully, 16 mpg on the highway, but wife liked some of the class c and a as we have kids under 3 and would not need to leave the cabin for roadside potty stops.
Thoughts for those of you who RV with small children??
What about having to pack everything in the Class C or A for travel if you want to go exploring, need to do pickup supplies, and so on. If the chassis or drivetrain develops a problem and you need to leave it in the shop for a few days, you loose your housing as well. With the larger C or A, big city excursions are out without towing a second vehicle adding costs, making backing up a pain as you have to disconnect the vehicle, and you are now very long. With the Class A, there is the frontal impact crash concerns as you have very little protection at all. Many things to think about between a MH and TT.
There are so many advantages and disadvantages to each, and its a personal decision based on each persons needs and wants. I think the best thing to do is create a list of priorities, advantages and disadvantages, and start a comparison. I think you'll narrow down the important points, then offer them up for discussion from others to get their feedback.
I've owned TT, A, C and B, and I still sway back and forth on the decision :)
With all that said, I love the idea of a van and TT as it has the ability to be comfortable for travel as well as store excess or larger gear in the van. It's a good combination. Of course, a Class A towing a van could serve the same end :)
Yep. What Reflex said. Both have pros and cons. You have to decide what are adVANtages and disadvantages to your travel style.
Are you going to stop at different places along the way, or are you more likely to drive to your destination, set up camp, and venture out from there?
A small RV can easily stop along the way, but makes day trips from the campsite more difficult.
Pulling a trailer (or toad) behind your rig makes it more challenging enroute, but one you set up camp, you have another vehicle to go exploring.
When looking at Class C MH's, be sure they have belted seating for your entire family. I'm sure nothing is more important to either of us than family safety.
