Mystery switch

My wife and I recently purchased a 2004 Dolphin 5342 motor home. While looking in compartments I discovered a weatherproof switch mounted in the left rear compartment. I have no idea what this switch is for and have / will not try it for fear of damaging something. I have checked with the service departments at a few local dealers but none could answer the question. Does anyone know what this switch is for? I have attached a picture of the switch in question.
Thanks

:welcome:

Your photo doesn't display. If you check the switch, 12v might be a water pump switch, a tank heater, compartment lights, etc. If it's 120v, I don't know, your RV shows to be front engine gas powered. If it was a diesel pusher I'd say a block heater.

Is this what it looks like? If so the switch controls the HVAC so that when in the 'up' position the compressor expects that the MH is on a 50A circuit; when "down" it can operate on a 30A circuit. When parked on the yard of our friend in VT and using a 20A circuit in her garage, I put the HVAC switch in the down position and can operate the 'cool' side of the heat pump HVAC. We have to be careful not to overload that circuit or we have to reset the breaker.

Thank you

JJH3rd, Yes that is the switch, only mine is on its side. That may explain why we had a problem with our a/c while in Florida this past February. We were connected to a 50 amp service and the switch is in the down position or off as the plate label indicates. We were not getting cold air if the fan was on high. Going to our home park this weekend and it will be warm so I'll check it out and see what happens. Thanks again.

2nd compressor switch?

I have a 2007 Dolphin... and the same switch - I believe it to be a compressor switch (on|off) for the 2nd compressor to be used when on 50 Amp.

Yes and just so the OP knows that there are two compressors in your basement air heat pump. It will only run at full capacity both compressors when in the up position (50a) service and half capacity one compressor in the down position (30a) service. Some have had some luck in running it off a 20a receptacle with proper energy management. It won’t draw full amps while running but just staring it will peak.
