Air release/Air up toggle 2004 Eagle
 
I have a 2004 eagle and have yet another user question. The toggle switch on the dash that says air up/air rel is a trip back toggle switch. So you have to hold it down as soon as you release it it toggles back up. I assume this button should release the air bags, and lower the coach. But I don't see how it works, looks to me like it would realse air as long as it was held down then as soon as released it would air back up. The manual doesn't elaborate beyond saying it is air release. Any owner out there that can tell me how this is supposed to work?

Don't have an 2004, but it sure sounds like this is a momentary switch.


Momentary switches are actuated one way only, and return to their original position.


One actuation = ON


Next actuation = OFF


Nest actuation= ON


etc.

From What your describe it sounds like that would happen.
That switch on mine is not a momentary contact type.
Mine is either on or off and stays in either position.
That can be bad if you were to leave it in the air down position and then expect the RV to be airing up.

It sounds like you would have to press it until the suspension is down and then turn off the engine. That is what I sometimes do, but i have to remember to change the switch position. On yours it would happen automatically.

I had an '04 American Tradition with the same switch and it works as you describe. It isn't really a "dump" switch - the suspension auto-dumps when you deploy the jacks. Instead, that switch is intended for very short time adjustments to the ride height, e.g. to enter a low garage door, get under a low bridge, etc. The adjustment lasts only as long as you hold the switch because driving with the ride height high or low is damaging to the drive line. The driveshaft angle from transmission to rear axle will be incorrect, causing excessive wear if driven that way very long.
