Cruise King cruise control

On my way to Florida as I was passing through the state I started having trouble with my cruise control system. It's a king Cruise 2000 model that came with the original gillig chassis. After 25 years of service she lost the cable. Seems like a pretty simple fix but they no longer have parts for that model.

Now I probably should have solved this problem long ago while I was working on the project here in Florida for the last year-and-a-half, but I put it off because it wasn't a priority until it was nearly time for me to leave.

I called up the people that King Cuise and they sent me a replacement actuator unit lickety split. It's a newer model, much more simplified but uses the same controls. So essentially it was a bolt on, plug in, and program setup. Simple right? Not so fast!

When I installed the unit and went to set the throttle cable there is a programming procedure that you have to follow that is supposed to fully retract the throttle cable as if you were putting your foot to the floor. But for some reason the unit was trying to decelerate. In other words going in the complete opposite direction.

I called up the people that King Cruise and what great customer service I got from them. The owner of the company spent more than an hour trying to help me troubleshoot the problem including the time it took me to remove the unit from its mounting location so that I could access the internal programming mechanism and try and correct the issue. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem either and left the owner of the company perplexed. He had no idea what was going on.

Here's where things got really good. The owner of the company apologize to me profusely and said he was going to send me a replacement unit right away along with a shipping label to return the defective unit. He also said if I have any more troubles to get him on the phone and he will do everything he can to help me get going down the road. It arrived promptly and when I put it in it worked perfectly. I can't recommend these folks highly enough. If you've got a king Cruise unit and you have issues they've got your back. Now all I have to do is do the final Highway programming and it's ready to go.

Lesson of the story is, don't wait until the last minute or something will go wrong in the simplest of projects and you will be delayed. That is on me.

On the plus side, I have the skills in the tools to have done this work myself. The bill from the chassis shop would have been massive.

Happy RVing

Greetings from Choctaw OK.
They also took good care of me when my King Cruise bit the dust.
Overnighted mine they repaired it and shipped it out the same day they got it.

I’ve been having issues with mine. Steve at King Cruise has been super to deal with.
Because I live in Canada it’s not quite as simple sending stuff in either direction ,so I have had the privilege of actually disassembling the Box and Cable Reel Aseembly!
We have now diagnosed the failure and a new Spool is on the way!
