1997 Tropi-Cal roof replacement
Howdy. Has anyone replaced the roof on their older National RV? I have a 1997 Tropi-Cal and the wood had some soft spots when I would walk on it. Since the motorhome is 21 years old I made the decision to remove the entire roof and replace it. I got it tore down Tuesday and much to my suprise there's no wood going from side to side to fasten the new plywood to. My whole roof was made with a single piece of OSB plywood. It was only fastened down along the edges of the roof, at the vents/air conditioners and along the duct work. There was NO support from the ducts to the outer edge of the roof (two feet from front to back on both sides). The wood had no water damage but the OSB had become very wavy in the areas with no support. Now I have to figure out how to get wood running across the top of the RV to fasten down the new plywood. This is a really bad design.

In this picture I have cut up and removed most of the OSB. The white foam you see was at one time glued down to keep the roof from sagging when you walk on it. As you can see there is no wood going across the roof.

Thanks. I have the brochure and it really doesn't show if there's stringers going cross or not.
