Hydraulic Motor Replacement

My 2013 American Tradition has a had a problem with the hydraulic jacks. Working out the problem I decided to take the motor apart. When I did I discovered the inside of the motor was rusted and packed with dirt. Got a replacement motor and solenoid. My question is the wasn't there a gasket between the two? Or, was there Permatex used for a gasket, or nothing at all?

No gasket or sealant on the 3 I have taken apart.

Two possible sides of this. One to let water out if it gets in, other, so you need to replace it more often.

There is no gaskets between the end covers and the magnetic field case of motor so what would be gained by sealing between motor and pump? Pump is sealed internally to keep oil in and water out.
