New Sprinter chassis worth the changes?

Hi, I am shopping for a used Sprinter based motorhome, I found a nice Regency on a 2018 Sprinter chassis but I am wondering if I should keep shopping for a 2019 chassis, are the changes worth paying more for a newer chassis?
Thanks...

The new features are seemingly nice and an improvement, but they come at a price.....lots of recalls on the VS30 chassis. If this link works, here are some of them. Straight from NHTSA.

I previously had a 2013 Sprinter and now have a 2019 Sprinter based RVs. I find the 2019 chassis to be a very significant upgrade. Quieter. Better electronics. Nice automatic cruise control. 2019 does have some quirks, but overall I much prefer the 2019.

Just put 1,500 miles on a brand new one.
Loves:
1) Seats - infinitely better, heated, much more adjustable, much more comfortable.
2) HVAC - massively better
3) Steering wheel - all controls on wheel, leather wrapped, much more comfortable
4) Handling - crisper, less thumping & banging
5) Engine/Transmission - smoother, less harsh shifts, less slowdown on hills
6) Distance adjusting cruise control

Dislikes:
1) Crappiest speakers I've ever heard!
2) The much vaunted MB touchscreen system is pretty confusing, at least for now.

Overall, glad I insisted on the new one.

Disconnect the center speaker on the dash. Easy to do. Big improvement.

If you buy a used Class B camper in the NCV3 chassis (2006-2018), you'll have lots of money left over for worthy upgrades, such as ripping and replacing whatever obsolete radio head and lousy speakers are currently installed. Add full support for wireless CarPlay / Android Auto, for example. That's what we did. The new MB Infotainment center doesn't look particularly impressive to me, would not move to a new model for the dash, especially when I see how much I can save buying a gently used Class B vs. a new one.

Which audio unit did you buy? Did it work with your camera? 2016 VG

We bought and had them install a Pioneer WT76NEX. We also upgraded all the speakers and the amplifier for the subwoofer. So far, we're pretty happy with it. I believe there are other radios that are more responsive to touch-screen input via faster and smoother animations, but we've come to an understanding with this unit and it's serving our needs just fine.

Yes, it works with the camera we had added to the rear door of our Sprinter, not far from the license plate. The original camera above the doors that looks down at the ground still works with our "rear view mirror," which is a video screen. That downward view is ridiculously unhelpful while driving down the road, so we added a second camera and fed that to the radio.

A used 2020 RV will be on the new 2019 cab chassis for what it's worth. I bought a new 2021 to get the updated Sprinter chassis but if I had it to do over I would be getting a class C on the Ford chassis and gain 4750 lbs or more of GVWR and more than double the OCCC.

Noticed your comment on speakers/sound. Pop the center grill off, disconnect the black pair of sound system wires. The white pair are for the emergency call button. You WILL be amazed at the improvement.Attachment 313973

I found similar advice on the speaker on a Sprinter site. So, just to test, I threw a towel over the center speaker. Amazing! How could they screw up something so simple? I'll be doing the disconnect soon.

Rocinante440 01-17-2021 11:53 PM

If the crappy sound from that speaker is caused by the speaker itself being crappy, why not replace it with a better one vs. simply yanking the wires?

BTW, in our 2016 we replaced *all* the speakers, including the subwoofer, added an amplifier, and replaced the radio with one that has a big touch screen and supports wireless CarPlay / Android Auto. We also added a switch that lets us run the radio off the coach batteries while camping, and a second rear view camera routed to the radio's screen. We're very happy with the results. There are definitely things about the 2019+ MB units that we'd love to have, but we appreciate our camper's new and improved "infotainment" system and that it was relatively easy to significantly update our van.

I’m pretty disappointed by the sound as well, have an 2020 MB 3500 chassis that is only a few weeks old for my PW Plateau TS. Sounds like the only speaker is the center one. How many speakers/subwoofers are in this vehicle? And is the grill to “pop off” the perforated plastic panel closest to the windshield in the center? Is there an aftermarket speaker that fits that is a big improvement?

Just pry it up from a corner. Its a good speaker, just meant for voice and it just overpowers the others 2 per side. You will be pleasedAttachment 315775
