Air Conditioner

Quick question, what is an air conditioner solar monitor? How does it work, and why is there one on the motorhome?

I was on the roof and seen an old solar panel on the a/c unit, and little red light on the inside of the unit. Then went on YouTube to find out more. Not much on it, just getting hits about running a/c off batteries.

Thanks all!

The solar panel mounted on the A/C unit is nothing more than a means to maintain the batteries with minimal load or when in storage. Running an A/C unit from solar panels and batteries is pretty much a NO-GO. Take lots of solar panels a big inverter and lots of battery storage.

I think the previous owner just found a convenient place to mount the panel. As Ken said, it has nothing to do with the A/C unit. JMHO :thumb::D

As TXiceman stated, you would need at least 10 solar panels (@190W/ea) to power 1 AC unit (15A), and even then it may not be enough to get it started.

Thanks for the help, definitely not trying to run the a/c off solar, just was curious of why it is there. Honestly the guy I purchased it from never even mentioned it the solar panel.
I have done a bunch off little things to get this motorhome up to our standard, that the previous owner neglected.

This summer I see a roof re-coat and a refrigerator vent in my future.

Thatís up there just so you can say you have a solar panel other than that not much use.

Question about Air Condition

Recently purchased a Winnebago Vista 2013, just getting home from a quick 2 night trip and found the air conditioner does not adequately cool the inside of the coach. Can these units be serviced ? Suggestions ?
