Just One of Those Trips
Jinxed Journey North
Trying to get from St. Augustine, Florida to Maine. I have a 2004 Brave with a W-20 Workhorse chassis. So far, Iím losing big time. On the day before I left, I did an oil ad filter change. Couldnít get the oil filter off and ultimately had to call a mobile repair service. It took them ten minutes with the help of an impact driver. Out $200.
On the first day of the trip, the fan belt disintegrated. Waited seven hours on Interstate 95 while the emergency road service technician chased down the right belt on a Sunday afternoon. One serpentine belt and several hours of running around. $370.
On the third day, the ABS light came on while we were heading up Interstate 95 in Maryland. The brakes started to feel odd and a strange smell filled the motorhome. Did a walk-around and noticed that the front wheel on the passenger side was very hot. Called emergency road service again and after 7 hours, a truck mechanic came out and fixed the caliper that had become stuck. One hour later, I was out another $180.
Next time, Iíll leave the RV somewhere and take a private jet. Itíll be cheaper and less stressful. Tomorrowís another day. Iím thinking the fuel pump or the water pump. Maybe both will bite the dust. Just venting.
You do know that R.V. stands for Ruined Vacation don't you?
