Which hitch
Good morning all

I have searched the forum for this answer, but could not locate any solid information.
We would like to tow an enclosed vehicle trailer with our 2014 Anthem. Our tow capacity is 15,000 pounds.
Which hitch should I purchase?

I found these threads which may be useful.

I put 15,000 tow capacity hitch in the search bar above.

What is the rating of your current hitch? My Bus came with a 10,000# hitch rating. When I purchased a 26' enclosed trailer, I talked to Tiffin about it. They told me that I could go to a 15,000# hitch without any frame issues. They shipped one to me and I installed it myself. Check with Entegra. They might do the same.

Presumably your Entegra already has a hitch receiver, perhaps rated for the full 15k lbs but perhaps not. And even if 10k, that may be enough for your needs. How heavy will this enclosed car hauler be when loaded?

The value of a weight-distributing hitch on a large motorhome is debatable, but I'll err on the side of caution and recommend a quality WD hitch. For a trailer weighing somewhere in the 10k-15k range, I'd suggest an Equal-I-Zer or similar, e.g. a Blue Ox Sway Pro.

Like Gary mentioned, I used the Blue Ox Sway Pro just to eliminate the stress of a 1300# tongue weight in a dip of the road at highway speed. The trailer was close to 13,000#. It handled and towed great with that hitch.

I have never had to use a sway control on my enclosed trailers but controlling the tongue weight is key to that process. I just buy the proper weight hitch that is solid not hollow

I use a Curt solid shank that is rated at 15k and a ball that is rated higher.

This is exactly the information I was looking for.

Before you order a ball mount check to see what class hitch you have. At 15K it might be a class IV or V. Class IV is 2.5" and I thing V 3".
