Towing with/without Cruise Control

Do you tow a vehicle behind your diesel pusher with or without the cruise control on?

I tow with my cruise on many times. I have adaptive cruise and pick a truck that is doing the speed I want and driving safely and set it behind them.

I use the cruise control as much as possible towing my 2005 Jeep, really can't even tell that it's back there.

Always use CC. I also put the transmission into ECO mode so there are fewer downshifts in the hills. Most of the time I let the engine and transmission decide what gear to be in.

I tow a 4300 pound ZR2 Blazer behind my 29,000 pound dp. Cruise is usually on. I don't do eco mode, but sometimes I will take over shifting if there's too much hunting going on.

Cruise is on except for the mountains. Gotta keep my thumb on the cancel button as it won’t shut off when i hit the brakes. Working on finding the cause of that.

Yes, used it a lot on a recent 1350 mile trip.

Towing or not towing anything, I use the CC as often as I can. I let it run over the "rolling" hills in CC, but when I am faced with a steeper/longer pull, I'll take over for that as I like to maintain certain RPMs for cooling.

Understand completely about keeping RPMs up while climbing/pulling hard. I'll still use my cruise control. If I'm climbing, and I want say 2300 RPM and am at 40mph, I just shift it down a gear to keep the rpm where I want it.

We are towing a 19,000# 5er and I use cruise when possible. If I get into rolling hills and more, I have to drive with my foot. But relatively level roads, set the cruise and roll on.

Yes use it often on the trips. Big hills not but the flts and rolling hills, sure

blang311 08-04-2021 10:36 AM

Yep use it all the time on DP.

Thanks for the responses. I was hoping to hear this was the case from the majority.

Cruise control most of the time, towing a toad or not. Seems to follow along back there pretty well.
