I95-I26-I40 to Knoxville

Can anybody give me the driveabilly of this route? I will be driving a 34 ft. class A towing a Jeep.

Where does I26 intersect with I95?

Ausable 10-17-2021 06:25 PM

Exit 86, South Carolina

I've done it. A little hilly on the I-40 portion west of Asheville Ave over the mountains with some really long pulls. Plenty of others with toads on it. State line area between NC and TN has lots of curves, and a couple tunnels. Watch your brakes and you'll be ok.

Thank you

I-95 is rough in spots. We just ran south from NC 74 to Jacksonville on 95. We went to Savanah from Yemassee, SC a couple of days and 95 north in that section was bumpy with several spots needing serious repair.

I-26 has a long pull up Saluda Mtn south of Hendersonville, NC after which there are no significant hills as I-40 follows the river through the Smokies rather than going over them although this section is curvy. I just get in the semi lane and ride with them.

There is some construction on 26 just before you get to Asheville. It's been that way for a few years but they are making progress. Not a big deal, just a few miles.

I think the i-26 and I-40 pulls are not too bad compared to I-95 in SC. Be careful on it as you can jar out some of your teeth fillings.

Where are you starting from???

it maybe shorter and less hilly to take I 75 (except around atlanta)

There was lots of construction around Asheville, NC when we went through there last July.
26 is a good road, no issues .

I40 Knoxville overrun with trucks and traffic. Be patient. I40 has bridge replacement close to NC line. and I believe you are off roaded in a detour and it lasts until May. If you can continue on to 81 to avoid the slow go. I live in this area and travel to Raliegh often. Always use 81 now all the time. Good luck.
