New muffler
1 Attachment(s)
I ordered a new muffler for my CAT C7 last week and it just came in on Friday. I will get it installed and let everyone know if I can tell a difference in performance with the new exhaust.

It is a Aero 5050XL muffler

Looks nice.
What are your expected gains or what are its claims of performance gains?

I read on another site a few people said that it increased fuel economy and performance. I pulled this info from the web site of Aero and its pretty generic but I will post anyhow.

The Aero Turbine XL 5050XL is a Resonated 5" i.d. inlet, 5" i.d. outlet. The 5050XL was designed specifically for Diesel Trucks, Semi-Trucks and Motorhomes. The Aero Turbine XL Series 5050L Muffler is composed of high quality 304 stainless steel, embossed with the Aero Turbine XL signature logo and polished to a mirror finish. Inside is a high temperature ceramic acoustic material followed by the patented air foil providing the deep throaty tone that any diesel owner will love.

The Aero Turbine XL 5050XL is the latest breakthrough in diesel performance exhaust technology. Designed for high output diesel engines ensuring that your performance diesel truck, motorhome, or semi will perform more efficiently.

With a built-in resonator and patented air foil cone, the Aero Turbine XL 5050XL will not only increase fuel mileage, but significantly improve your horsepower and torque while decreasing noise and exhaust gas temperature.

I have that muffler on my cat c7 It sure sounds good, about the performance I could not tell you because I did the muffler, air filter, and a power chip from brazels performance rv, and let me tell you the all three combined It makes a world of a difference the power Is unbellivable, Joe.

I installed the Aero 5050XL on my C9 last year. I have seen MPG up .5 mpg and power up slightly on flat land, more on steep grades (5-7 % grades, seat of pants feel). I feel it was worth the money spent. IMHO.

So I took the old exhaust out on Sunday and it was super simple. I have to order a 90 deg elbow and 2 new exhaust hangers and then I will get it all put back together. I took 2 cruddy pictures to show the old muffler and the new muffler.

A great project and thanks for all the follow up. Anxious to see the final results.

Ok I finally received the 5" elbow and the hangers on Thursday So on Saturday I put it all back together. It has a deep throaty sound to it now. If you are cruising down the highway you cant really hear it but when you are in stop and go traffic in the city you can hear it back there. If I turned the radio on I could not hear the new muffler at all.

Ok performance seemed to be noticeable right from the take off. The turbo built boost almost right from take off. Before the new muffler I would get into 2nd before boost was felt. Now it is felt right away in 1st gear. I haven't towed with it yet so cant give you any performance results on that yet.

Nice...Do you have part#'s for the hangers and elbow....

sandcar361 10-04-2010 04:02 PM

This is what I used to fit my application. Things might be different for you.

I bought 2 hangers.
Pipe Hanger 5" Universal

I bought 1 90 deg elbow
Aluminized Short Radius 90 Degree Elbow 5" ID/OD

I bought 1 clamp
U-Bolt Exhaust Clamp 5"

This is all I needed for my application.
