with oil now over $68.00 barrell and diesel 30-40 cents a gallon higher than unleaded and $4.00 diesel a reality, I wonder why RV dealers are refusing to budge anywhere near 20% off MSRP.. They are acting like these DPs are flying off the lot. Or is it going to be their approach that if we only sell 1 or 2 a month instead of 10 or 15 maybe we ought to get all the $ we can squeeze out of these fools. What do you think the impact of high fuel prices will have on the sales portion of the industry?

Heres how my shop is effected, and I'll bet the RV dealers are similar.

When fuel prices go up, just about EVERY SINGLE one of my plant's costs go up. ALL carriers bringing material into my shop have a fuel-surcharge on their invoices to me. All suppliers have bumped their price of goods. My costs of transporting my goods (I have 12 trucks on the roads 10 hours a day) have shot up. Employees are feeling the pain and need to get at least a cost of living compensation.

And i have found that most of my clients who understand that transportation of goods plays a role at least somewhere in my cycle of production, have understood that the integral costs are rising not decreasing. The cost of goods sold have increased for ANY heavy production.

The COGS is increasing, but i hope that more people will decide to tour their area in an RV, instead of flittering around the world or something like that. I hope the RV industry gets a little more efficient, a lot more quality orrientated, and hangs in there.

Because they haven't actually seen a decline in sales yet? That may change over the next several months, but for now people are still traveling and buying.
