I have the same trailer and truck set as you. With the 14k Curt setup with 15k miles of towing and never had sway issue in fact most of the time I don’t even know the trailer is behind me.

On the gutter issue, mine shorted out my awning lights from the same thing.My fix was to use Flex Seal spray both on top and from the bottom of the separation.
