40 Amp fuse sounds risky

I doubt that the factory's solar panel wiring was heavier than 10 gauge, which would support a 30A fuse. Probably only 12 gauge (20A) or even 14 (15A). 40A is literally playing with fire.

Save money - buy Li battery powered detectors

When my CO detector died, I found that it could be replaced by a 10-year-life battery-powered detector for half the price of a replacement 12V wired-in detector. Probably applies to LP detectors too.
