Have you driven it since it stuck? Mine has done that same thing probably 4 or 5 times. Every time it has done it, when I get moving up around 35 MPH or so, it has started functioning properly.

I believe the heat is likely coming from the power that is energizing coil in the relay. I tested the the relay I removed when I installed the latching relay, and that coil is pulling 15 watts.
