The key word is poor workmanship. They won't cover "pre existing" conditions. Run into that before.

I understand why they won't, but I can see why it should be too.

Service Warranties usually do not cover structural damage or rot. That is what insurance is for. Insurance doesn't cover the appliances or systems though.
