I also had the same problem using a non Garmin...
I also had the same problem using a non Garmin cable until I accidently unattached the power cord/mounting bracket on the back. Then it started communicating with Garmin Express.

If I remember right the wood panel is held on...
If I remember right the wood panel is held on with velcro. I think there are 4 screws in the bottom in the carpet and 2 or 4 behind the wood. Cover the bedding because it will be dirty.

Put some planks under the rear wheels and get it as close to level as you can and then use the jacks just to stabilize.

I replaced the rear view camera in our 2000 MADP. I removed the camera and there was plenty of extra cable there to install a new connector. I also installed a new monitor in the front.

Hope you enjoy your 2004 as much as we enjoy our 2000. Yes our jacks are slightly angled and the slides are slow. Make sure the drivers seat is front before you move the slide.
