Occasionally when the CAT C9 (2006) is cold I get a slow start and it sound like one cylinder is missing at just a few hundred RPMs. If step on the pedal I can feel a rough engine and it will go away...

Did a oil change on my CAT C9 for the first time and had some fun getting the filter off. After the filter wrench broke I got out a long screwdriver.

It will not matter, after about 15 min will be warmed up as the thermostat will restrict water circulation until warm. If you load it it will warm faster. To load it just flip the shore breaker.

Sounds like the ATS is bad. Take some pictures before disassemble and tag each wire as you disassemble it. Once out you may be able to see the problem with burnt contacts or broken wire etc.
