Ours does not light up either on our 2016 Navion (Sprinter chassis). I don't know what the red light is for. I'll have to ask the Mercedes dealer the next time I'm in for service.

I had a very similar situation on our 2015 3500 chassis. The lights came on, then went off. The dealer found and replaced a bad sensor. So far the issue hasn't returned.

I only bought the 10ft for now, which is the same length I believe it came with. I might try the 17ft version, but I think 10ft will work 95% of the time for me.
