Teak is resilient. I let it be. It is a naturally oily wood and thus difficult to "treat" with coatings in general. Teak is at home in a wet environment in my opinion.

My educated guess: the plastic panel is a rock guard to protect radiator fins. So unless the radiator is being replaced, the panel should be just as permanent. Guess I'm "stuck with the decision"...
