It is the size of the object, 10' would come close to if not extending above the coach, ladders are solid enough but wind has been known to damage things, like moving kayak side to side, eventually...

If not batteries I would take another look at grey/black tanks, even empty they can smell, are you driving with bathroom roof vent open, that can pull odors from tanks.
