Hello from Penetanguishene, Canada!
Hi All,
As the title says, I’m from Penetanguishene, a small town in Ontario.
I’ve done a lot of camping in my younger years and somewhat off the grid cottaging (self built cottage). Now in my older years my wife and I will be TTing in the US for a few months during the winters.
I must say, I’m a little more than just nervous!
Looking forward to gaining information from this forum and, as time passes, hoping to be able to contribute as my experiences grow.

Hello and welcome aboard. I can understand some apprehension, but the TT is a good way to go since you can leave it and be mobile if it needs significant work for some reason. As long as you don't over-load it, have an appropriate tow vehicle, and have good tires, brakes, towing equipment, and keep up on maintenance you’ll be fine.
A lot of people seem to think they can safely tow the maximum weight (GCWR) for which their vehicle is rated. And in many cases this may be ok. But I like a sensible safety margin - if a vehicle is rated for 7500lbs, I’d keep it around 6500, fully loaded and weighed. That way you know you aren't pushing it and if you add some weight along the way you're still ok. Most of the serious towing problems I’ve seen have been a combination of an undersized SUV towing an oversized trailer, and/or an improperly loaded trailer.
There’s been some nice developments in weight distribution hitches over the years and folks on the TT forum will know all about what’s new and what works best for a given application. Don’t try to economize on that or tires.
Also if you don’t have a trailer yet, you can get a lot of info here on pros and cons of just about anything on the market. Same with tow vehicles. Once you’ve schooled yourself on all this and set yourself up properly, you’ll feel a lot more comfortable heading out on the road to parts unknown.

Come on down...weather is good and people are friendly
Traveling in an RV is FUN
Exploring new areas, seeing new sights, experience new adventures
And wealth of help/info just a few clicks away.....also just ask a campground neighbor for help
Ah....memories to be made!
What truck/trailer are you planning on using?
