Norcold NXA841 AC element replacement

I have a Safari with a relatively new Norcold nxa841 fridge. we had lightning strike a tree about 15 ft from us and one of the things that went was the AC heating element. I can't find how to get it out short of pulling the fridge out of the RV. There must be a better way. Can anyone help?

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!

It sounds strange to me that lightning would get the heating element. How did you determine that it is bad?

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I checked the voltage at the contacts and the impedance of the disconnected wires to the element. the voltage was there but the element showed an open circuit. The lightning also ruined all of the GFCI outlets in the house we were connected to and the people living in the house had to replace the submerged pump in the well. I am thinking a significant surge in the power lines. I found that the fridge control board was bad and replaced that first and found that I still did not have AC use on the fridge. I ended up not completely removing the fridge but disconnecting the propane and sliding it far enough to access the piping where the element was. The replacement of the element was successful and the fridge now works on AC both in auto and manual.

You need to have access to the boiler tube area and usually that is possible from the outside panel door, but it all depends on how the fridge was installed relatively to the panel opening. You will probably have to cut some of the insulation away to get at it.

Now that you have had to replace the fridge circuit board, the fridge element and GFCI outlets.....
**have you tested water heater, furnace (circuit boards), and any other electronics???
Time to invest in a Surge Protection Device

Progressive Industries is TOP in the field (TRC/Surge Guard----NOT so much)
PI...portable or hardwired units and can be 'field serviced'----good customer/tech support
YEAH---I'm a fan of PI
