ISC 8.3 Crankcase Breather Element

Greetings all,

Yesterday i got a check engine light followed by a stop engine light on my 09 ISC 8.3. I was very close to a Cummins service center so i had them scan it and they told me it was a clogged CBE however they were not able to get to it soon enough so i bought the filter to do myself. The problem is I can't find any help locating it on the engine with the engine cover removed inside the coach (rear radiator). Am i looking in the wrong place? Any help is appreciated. If it matters the coach is a 09' Tiffin Phaeton 40QTH.

hopefully this pdf will be helpful: http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/Cl...tlocations.pdf
EDIT:That shows the original location. Somewhere between 2001 and 2002 Cummins relocated the crankcase breather tube in the side of the block vs on top of the engine.(per a different RVing forum)

I've never thought of changing mine, something more for the to-do list.

Ray,
Thanks for the pdf the CBE was right where the picture showed. It took me less than 30 minutes to change it and from the looks of it I don't think it has ever been changed. This is a perfect example of why I DIY most of my maintenance. The Cummins service center wanted $450 labor to do the filter change that took me half an hour. In any case I will make this filter part of mt regular maintenance. Thanks for the help.

Wild card,

This is one of the problems of buying used. No matter what the previous owner says, I have always started my new ownership by changing all fluids and filters. Being new to diesels, this filter got by me. So to answer your question, the coach had 83k miles when I bought it and from the looks of the filter I don't know if it was ever changed. It was easy to change so I will at least inspect it once per year and the filter is only $75 on amazon so even if I have to change it that often it won't break the bank.
