On my Garmin Dezl770, I access the routes imported from Basecamp via the “Trip Planner” feature on the Garmin. You also should have an SDHC memory card in the Garmin on which to save the routes.

RVTW is a great program and I now use it for every trip. However, the process of exporting from RVTW, importing into Basecamp, then transferring to the GPS is extremely clumsy and user-Unfriendly.

Used it for trip to Yellowstone from CT and finally ported route to garmin gps. Each segment is a route. Now to use it. Stay tuned.

Has anyone successfully imported routes into CoPilot? I tried to do this with no success. CoPilot uses a proprietary .trp file type and the exported file from RVTW needs to be converted using a route conversion program like ITN converter or Routeconverter. Neither of these programs were able to convert the .gpx file from RVTW into anything usable.

Rv trip wizzard

I use it regularly. Been on trips to Wisconsin , Sedona AZ, Niagara Falls NY, Lancaster PA, Watercolor FL, Vero Beach, FL, Tampa FL and currently to Lexington VA. Generally find it highly accurate. It takes a bit of practice, but once learned is quite easy. Especially like the "drag route" feature.

Try exporting the data from RV Trip Wizard as a CSV file instead of a GPX file. A CSV file is a "plain-Jane" generic data format file that almost any program can use. If Co-Pilot can import a CSV file, this may be the answer.

The export function needs a lot of work. Even when you do it via Basecamp, all you get is waypoints, not a route. Other than that, RVTW is my one and only for trip planning.

I tried it, I think it was a free offer. It seemed complicated, I figured I would forget how to use it the next time I went to use it. So I decided not to invest my time learning it.

I use my Garmin and pre-load all the stops so they show up in my recent. I don't use my Garmin for more than one stop. All I do is pull up the next stop in the pre-loaded recent, and confirm it's going by the route I planned. But I also check paper maps (truck driver atlas and run google maps. So I will alter most my routes.

Not great for boondockers .........

I use it for every trip. The only improvement I would like to have is a better handle on boondocking and dry camping sites. On my most recent use a few months ago, I had to go to other sites and Google Earth and similar to find places to stay along my route.

Be aware, this thread started over 5 years ago. Since then, there's a dedicated RV Trip Wizard section here on iRV2: https://www.irv2.com/forums/f287/

If you have questions or concerns, please post your issues there for Ambassador assistance so everyone can benefit. Not just the Class A owners (where this thread was posted prior to us having that dedicated section). TW isn't just for Class A people.

When the data gets into your GPS unit, it’s just the waypoints, not the route. There is a note in the thread about using the waypoints for each day’s stop. Just find the destination for the day (or your other next stop), and set that as your destination.

For last years cross country i used trip wizard and passport america. Trip wizard was useful to show campgrounds along our route and passport america for discounted campgrounds. For driving navigation i used my garmin GPS which followed trip wizard.

There is a learning curve and as a first time user i found it indispensable.
