Solo Bonfire Stove or Gas Fire Pit.

I am full timing and have not had a chance to use much firewood. I find there are limitations in burning throughout the USA, not just out west. Looking for opinions. Do you use your Wood burning or Gas more? I like the solo but can be messy to travel with.

The DW is allergic to smoke so we only use the gas fire pit. We've not found anywhere that its use is prohibited like many areas are banning open fires.

Gas ones are not as "banned" as any wood burning stove. The NW park we Vol in at fire danger times Banned any wood burner (sparks and pieces of ciders in the air) but allowed gas flames. I have set around a "Solo" type stove and they are great hot campfires with little smoke but the disadvantages in storage and possible bans , at least in the west, make them a no go for us. We carry an Outland Gas fireplace with us.

We really like our Solo. The smoke is kept to a minimum once lit and is relatively easy to clean. Just turn it upside down and dump the ashes. We did however, find a lot of campgrounds out west didn't allow wood fires due to wildfire history. Seems to be a trend.

I have a solo stove and really like it ... but as others have said, they are not permitted everywhere. Also, there is quite a bit of smoke when starting until it gets going really well. I travel with mine (solo - bonfire), just dump the ashes before you head out and put the whole thing in a heavy contractor plastic bag. No issues .... fyi. Lynn

Thank you all. This is what I thought I would hear. Love burning wood but may not get much use out of it.
