On 6/28, I took my 2006 Alpine to Cummins Onan in Dallas for repair after intermittently having the GenSet shut itself down with code 27. They actually found the problem and fixed it in a matter of minutes!
This intermittent code 27 shutdown has been occuring since the coach was picked up at the factory in May, 2006. Although I asked them to, WRV Service Center did not even try to diagnose and resolve the problem; Josh simply looked at me like I was a dummy when I told him of the problem. He then started the GenSet and it worked, so he said there must not be a problem.
I subsequently took the coach to Cummins Coach Care in Amarillo, TX in June 2006 to have them look at the intermittent code 27 problem; they tried but did not properly diagnose and fix the problem either. They suggested it might be a bolt improperly torqued on the governor, which they tightened. The problem continued to intermittently occur.
Cummins Onan in Dallas found the problem within 5 minutes, as I watched the technician. After listening to me describe the intermittent nature of the problem, he started the GenSet and began to check the wire connections coming out of the inverter then going to the coach. The white neutral wire came out in his hand with only a very slight tug. When he tightened this connection, he also tightened the other wire connections and found them to be slightly loose also, but not on the verge of coming out of the hole. These wires are connected to the GenSet inverter through insertion into a hole that has a set screw on top to secure the wire. Every one of these set screws was somewhat loose.
Anyone else have intermittent code 27? If so, check the wiring connections. Clearly, these connections were not properly torqued when the coach was built.
