I seldom frequent iRV2 but I know that some/many Escapees members do so I thought I would pass this information along as the new Escapees web site is down due to hurricane Ike.

Info I posted on the old Escapees site a little while ago:

Update.....

I just received a call from Mark Nemeth and he said he's doing fine and he didn't mention any injuries or loss of life to anyone associated with the Escapees organization which was a major concern to all of us.

Unfortunately our cell phone battery was on the verge of petering out when Mark called therefore he had to call twice and each call only lasted for about a minute before our phone went completely dead.

(Someday the better half will understand that these things have to be recharged on a daily basis... )

Back to the subject at hand, Mark said they basically took a direct hit from Ike and that there was a large number of trees and power lines down in the area but thankfully his house and the Livingston headquarters seemed to be in good shape with very little if any damage or flooding to either but unfortunately some employees have lost their homes, or had serious damage.

He said he would be heading over to the Livingston headquarters in a little while to check out the mail service facility further which he said from his initial inspection seemed to be in pretty good shape also.

I'll try to call Mark back in a little while once our cell phone is recharged and report back with any further information that he passes along to me.

UPDATE:

Mark was able to get online and posted as message on the old web site a few minutes ago and it seems as though the new site is online at least for now.

I just tried the Escapees discussion forum (9:04 PDST) and found that it was down.

The following was posted on the Boomer Bulletin Board and comes from the SOLOs Bulleting Board:

Rainbows End really got hit hard by Hurricane Ike. Many, many trees are down. Several houses with trees fallen on them. No electric,no phones and no gas in Polk County. This means no gas for generators.

Any word of how the folks in the CARE unit are doing? I'd like to go help, but I'm a thousand miles away and my wife just had emergency surgery last week.

CARE is reported as OK.

HERE is a link to the Escapees Temporary Forum with some on site reports.

The last couple of days, I haven't been able to get to the Escapees forum -- it comes up with a Page Load Error -- it can't find the server. I was able to get it a couple of days ago, but now it went away again.

Anybody else experiencing this?

Ken, are you trying the new site? I just tried it and it came up...haven't had any problems with the site since they got it back online after the hurricane.

Yes -- I've been using the right address. I even tried your link, with the same result.

There are still DNS issues with the new Escapees forum.

Most everyone is having intermittent connection problems and some cannot connect at all.

There is nothing you can do until all internet servers correct the DNS issues.

Thanks, Dirk. That's exactly what I'm getting now -- a DNS lookup error.

I'm hoping they get it cleared up shortly.
